Description
Pre requisites: Participants need to be working on a research project
probably with some leadership or management role, or are likely to do so
in the near future. This overview workshop is aimed at staff who have
limited experience of leading projects.
This course is offered in this one day “overview” format and also in a
more detailed, practically based 2.5 day format. Both courses cover the
same generic aspects of project management but an integral part of the
longer format is using the participant’s project management plans and an
intensive half day hands on workshop on Microsoft “project” software. NB
Attending the overview workshop will cover the same content in less
detail therefore please choose one or the other based on the level of
experience you have: less experienced – overview more experienced –
essentials
Pre work: Belbin team profile questionnaire involving feedback from at
least four colleagues.
Overall aim of workshop:
To build a clear understanding of what constitutes a good research
project plan and how team behaviour impacts on the achievement of that
plan. The workshop will provide training in clear, simple and practical
processes for setting up and running research projects and project teams
by covering the two main areas of project management: decision making
and project control.
Intended outcomes: Participants will have gained knowledge of several
project management techniques that can be used on future projects to
ensure that projects come in on time, to budget and deliver successful
project outcomes.
