Postgraduates, Research Staff who teach and other Part-time Teachers
(from any discipline) who have some experience of teaching and who have
an interest in further developing their teaching skills and gaining
greater understanding of their role and responsibilities as a HE
teacher. It is expected that participants will have attended one or
more of: Learning and Teaching in Tutorials, Seminars, Problems Classes
and Workshops; Assessing Students Work; Laboratories and Practical
Classes; Learning and Teaching in Lectures. By booking you are
indicating that you are available to attend the full session. Please
note that if you arrive late or leave part way through the session your

Description
Aim: This workshop is intended to help participants become better able
to help students to learn successfully, by addressing the principal
factors which underpin successful learning.

Outcomes: At the end of the workshop, participants will be better
able to:
•Reflect on their own approaches to learning
•Identify principal factors underpinning successful student
learning
•Design teaching sessions to promote student learning
Content: This workshop is an interactive small group session which uses
group activities as the basis of discussion about the process of student
learning.

learning and teaching' Francis. 'Learning about educational
theories/approaches, learning about my own tendencies as a supervisor

Tutor: Clara Davies is a Senior Academic Staff Development Officer in
the Learning and Teaching team of SDDU. Clara has a background in
Engineering and has extensive experience both as a researcher in
industry and as a university lecturer. She is a Fellow of the Higher
Education Academy, a Senior Fellow of the Staff and Educational
Development Association, and a University Teaching Fellow
