This course will take place on campus.
Building a strong relationship with your supervisory team is key to a
successful doctoral journey. This interactive workshop will help you
explore expectations of supervision, build effective working
relationships, and develop practical communication skills to support
your research journey.
Through a series of interactive activities, case studies and guided
reflection, you will compare perspectives on supervision, explore the
foundations of trust, and develop strategies for communicating
confidently with your supervisors. Using realistic scenarios and
LinkedIn AI role play, you will practise approaches to assertive
communication, responding to feedback, and navigating common supervisory
challenges in a supportive environment.
The workshop concludes with reflection and action planning, enabling you
to identify practical steps to strengthen your supervisory relationships
and communicate more confidently throughout your candidature.
As a result of attending, you will be able to:
• Compare different expectations of the supervisory relationship and
identify questions to clarify expectations within your own research
environment.
• Describe the key elements of trust in professional supervisory
relationships and identify actions to strengthen them.
