Description
Please note this session will be delivered in person on campus
Focusing on physical and digital security and safety of the traveller,
the course will cover identifying and mitigating potential
vulnerabilities when in a higher risk environment. The course covers
areas which require heightened situational awareness and preparedness
due to the varying levels of risk and instability due to high crime,
political instability, authoritarian regimes, post-conflict zones,
different customs and laws or perception or overseas visitors.
The course will cover personal security and vulnerabilities in hotels
and accommodation, safety and security in urban and rural environments
as well as when travelling by road or public transport. It will also
cover approaches to developing personal resilience while travelling.
Attendees will learn about digital security including what your business
profile says about you, security of information and devices and
situations to avoid.
Examples of higher risk environments include:
1. Low tolerance of overseas visitors – Countries which are known to
be less welcoming to overseas visitors for a variety of reasons.
2. High-Crime Urban Areas: Cities or neighbourhoods with high crime
rates where law enforcement presence is inconsistent.
3. Regions with Political Instability: Countries experiencing
political unrest or frequent protests.
4. Natural Disaster Zones: Regions recently affected by, or
vulnerable to natural disasters where infrastructure and security are
compromised or easily overwhelmed.
5. Post-Conflict Zones: This session will highlight the increased
hazards you might face in recent post conflict zones and give guidance
on extra essential training required to visit and work in them.
6. Border Regions: Areas near international borders that are prone to
smuggling and illegal activities.
This session will be delivered by Doughie Wright. Dougie has an
