Suitability
It is aimed at postgraduates and staff who are new to teaching and have
completed the Foundations in Teaching online course and want to develop
their teaching practice. Some experience of teaching would be useful,
but not essential.

Description

Pre-work:

Please complete the online Foundations in Teaching course
before attending. You can book this course if you haven't completed it
yet through the FiT webpage: https://studenteddev.leeds.ac.uk/getting-
started-in-se/

Aims:

This is an interactive session designed for you to share any concerns
you might have or support you might need to help design your teaching.
You will have the opportunity to share with your peers any experiences
you’ve had or situations that you are worried about with dealing with.
This workshop will give you the space to share best practices in
teaching and explore what could work for you.

Outcomes:

1. Discuss effective ways to design and plan your teaching.
2. Identify actions you could take and improvements you could make with
future teaching design.

Content and format:

This synchronous session will build on the asynchronous Foundations in
Teaching content on designing and planning your teaching. This is an
online session, held via MS Teams. You will work in breakout rooms to
discuss experiences, challenges, and concerns around planning using the
step approach of defining learning outcomes, planning teaching
ativities, and structuring sessions for effective engagement. These
discussions will allow you to share best practice and identify actions
you can take with your own future practice.

Learning and Teaching Methods:

Participants will be guided on how to share their reflections in
facilitated breakout activities, and how to use those discussions to
develop actions.

Mapping to the PSF:

This workshop relates to A1 (area of activity- design and planning
activities and/or programmes of study) of the PSF. Once you have a
minimum of 12 months experience of teaching in Higher Education you are
able to prepare an application for Associate Fellowship of the Higher
Education Academy.
