Description
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Throughout this course you will learn some of the commonly used
functions to calculate descriptive statistics within Excel. This course
is the second in the series for Excel and provides a good base knowledge
for creating formula.
COURSE FORMAT: This is Part 2 of a series of 4 online 'Excel for
Research' sessions. Part 1 is not required as a pre-requisite however,
if you would like to attend all 4 sessions then it is recommended that
they are undertaken in order.
The online course is delivered by a facilitator completely online via
Microsoft Teams and the "virtual classroom" is accessed through the
internet.
Practice exercises and tasks are included in the session to help you
master the fundamental features of Excel. You will need the Excel
software installed on your computer to complete the exercises. (If you
do not have the software, please install it well in advance of the
session):

Windows 10 & Excel 365 for PC are used throughout the course. If you
are using Excel for mac, you may find that not all of these features are
available on mac.
PREREQUISITES
Participants should be familiar with the Excel interface (Ribbon,
Quick Access Toolbar, Formula bar etc.) and possess a basic knowledge of
Excel. Before attending this course you should be able to complete the
following tasks:
• Open, save and close Excel files
• Select cells, columns & rows
• Insert/delete cells, columns, rows, or worksheets
• Enter, Edit, delete & Format data
• Move or copy data to other worksheets
• Amend column width and row height
• Use Autofill and the various Autofill options
• Create a basic formula using Brackets, Divide, Multiply, Add, and
Subtract
Please note: This course is not suitable for complete beginners.
CONTENT
• Create a formula using built in functions
• Use the Formula auditing tools
• Absolute versus relative cell referencing in formula
• Statistical functions (Descriptive Statistics such as Average,
Mode, Median & Standard Deviation)
• Create descriptive statistics using the Analysis Toolpak Add-In
