This session aims to help colleagues support student mental health. It
will begin by exploring some of the issues faced by students with poor
mental health and how we might create a culture of acknowledgement and
support. This will include considering our duties under the Equality Act
(2010), inclusive practice and reasonable adjustments. Breakout rooms
will be used to explore examples of inclusive practice and how these
might support students experiencing mental health problems. We will then
explore a scenario of a student who is struggling on their course, and
you think that they may be experiencing mental health difficulties. The
scenario relates to the boundaries of the (academic personal tutor) APT
role, raising concerns and the principles to consider when having
conversations with students.

This session will:

- Enhance conversations you have with students within your (APT) role
- Develop your knowledge about supporting student mental health
- Co-create guidance to support conversations with students

Trigger warning: there will be information and discussion about
different mental health conditions, suicide and self-harm, and people's
experiences of accessing mental health services.

This session will be held using MS Teams and will involve
breakout room discussions so please use a laptop/PC where possible to
enable you to access the breakout rooms.
