Description

An introduction to managing and sharing research data. The session will
outline important data management tasks and potential pitfalls, the
value of a data management and outputs plan for every research project
and introduce the Leeds data management plan template. You will be sent
a link to supporting material which you may find useful to review before
attending the online webinar. The course is aimed at PGRs but any
researchers and research support staff are likely to find the content
useful. By the end of the session participants will be better able to:

1. Understand the benefits of good data management
2. Describe the forms research data can take and be aware of the data
lifecycle
3. Consider storage/handling data, including sensitive data
4. Plan metadata and documentation so data remains useful for the long
term
5. Understand the research data expectations of research funders and the
University of Leeds
6. Evaluate whether data should be shared and understand when and how
this can be done
7. Know where to go for more information and support
All participants will be encouraged to write an initial data management
plan after the session.
