**Please be aware that this workshop is available to all Leaders and
Managers

By the end of this workshop, participants will have:

• Been introduced to the Role Based Competency guidance and process
flowcharts for responding to and supporting staff with mental health
concerns.
• Explored practical applications of different approaches to stress and
mental health in relation to work roles via case studies.
• Been introduced to Workable Ranges (©Rose 2015) as a way of
understanding forms of mental stability and instability in order to
consider one’s own and other people’s state at any one point and over
time.
• Been introduced to the Drama Triangle and Quinby Durable models to
reflect on helpful and unhelpful interactive dynamics for working with
and supporting others.
• Had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on these
workshops.

Pre-requisites:
Participants should be in a leadership/management position

Pre-work:
Participants will be sent electronic documents relating to university
policies in relation to mental health and stress at work for them to
read in advance of the workshop.

Overall Aim of the Course:
To give managers the confidence to effectively handle instances of
stress or mental health amongst their team members.

Indicative Content:
Flow charts showing steps for managers when responding to concerns about
a colleague’s mental health.
Guidance for Managers in supporting individuals experiencing stress and
or mental health issues.
Models relating to stress management
Opportunity to discuss cases relating to mental health and stress

Learning and Teaching Methods
Combination of presenter information and facilitated interactive
activities

Facilitators:
A variety of trained facilitators taken from the HR Directorate and
colleagues from across the university.
