Description
Content:
This is a 1 hour webinar within Teams. There will be a 15-minute
optional Q&A at the end.

This webinar will explore how teaching staff can record and share
screencasts or presentations for learning and teaching in preparation
for 2020-2021. There are pedagogical considerations when designing a
hybrid curriculum and there are many benefits to creating ‘snack-size’
presentations for students to assimilate information in their own time
at their own pace.

We know that existing lecture capture recordings can be usefully shared
with future student cohorts but it is important to consider alternative
ways of disseminating knowledge which is more accessible and engaging
for students. Designing asynchronous learning content can prepare
students for live online sessions as part of a helpful mix for the new
hybrid learning environment.

Examples:
• Explain difficult concepts which guide students to undertake
independent reading, study or research
• Share digital content to help students prepare for an online session
in which they are expected to contribute to peer-to-peer discussions and
engage in critical thinking
• Create short "how-to guides" or screencasts which provide clear
instructions to students which they can re-visit at any time
• Provide guidance to students on project work, assignments, research,
study skills, exam techniques and module outcomes
• Respond directly to student enquiries in one presentation, screencast
or talking head saving you time by cutting down on replying to a wide
range of individual responses
• Record informal, personal introduction videos to help your students
get to know you – this builds a strong online presence

All digital content is seamlessly and securely shared via Mediasite and
available to students within Minerva. Captioning is in place for a more
inclusive student experience.

The focus of this webinar will be the use of Mediasite to record, edit
and share content although other options such as using Stream will be
discussed.

Format:
Online webinar via Microsoft Teams

Aims of the session
By the end of the session you will be better able to:
• plan and prepare your recordings as part of your curriculum design
providing a mix of synchronous and asynchronous opportunities
• upload any existing content to Mediasite (use your phone or iPad)
• record your content using the capture software (Mac or Windows)
• review, edit and share your content and apply captions to your content
• explore further online resources to support your planning and design

Pre-requisites:
Before you attend the webinar it may helpful for you to read a brief
introduction to Personal Capture by visiting the IT Knowledge Base. You
may also want to download and register the Mediasite recording software
on your personal device. If you are interested in supporting your
students to create digital content for peer-to-peer learning or
assessment then visit: A Student Guide - Create and Share Digital
Content using Mediasite. (Links will be provided in the Outlook
invitation you will receive after booking this webinar).
