SPSS Beginners

COURSE FORMAT:

This 3 hr online course consisting of 2 x 1.5hr sessions and is an
introduction to the statistical software package – ‘SPSS for Windows’.
The course uses a mixture of teaching and demonstrations and contains a
large practical element involving step-by-step instructions and
exercises.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION***
SPSS for Windows: The training covers SPSS for Windows only. It does
not cover SPSS for Mac. This course uses the Windows version of SPSS.
You are welcome to take part in the course whilst using a Mac but the
steps and commands may be slightly different. There will not be enough
time in the session for the tutor to cover both versions. Please visit
the SPSS website for more specific advice on the MacOS version.

Training Manual
The SPSS course manual is no longer available in printed format and will
not be provided on the course. An electronic version will be available
to download before the course and you will be given a password to access
it. It is your responsibility to have a copy of this with you when you
attend the course.

PREREQUISITES

Basic familiarity with the Windows environment and elementary knowledge
of statistical concepts such as frequency distribution, mean, mode,
median, Standard Deviation etc. is assumed. This course does not cover
Statistical theory.

CONTENT:

• Define and code variables, enter and edit data
• Undertake basic exploratory & descriptive data analysis and interpret
results
• Produce and interpret various types of graphs
• Import data from Excel into SPSS
• Export SPSS output into Word
