Description
This course focuses on helping you improve the structure and cohesion of
longer pieces of writing in order to engage more successfully with your
readers. Work in class will include reviewing different genres (types)
of writing included in a thesis e.g. abstracts, literature reviews and
critiques, and exploring the structure and language typically used to
produce them. You will be encouraged to investigate issues such as what
counts as ‘criticality’ or ‘evidence’ in your field, and how this is
displayed in writing in your particular discipline. You will also
practise producing an account of your research for a non-specialist
audience.
