Suitability
This workshop is primarily designed to support
international PGRs in the early stages of their PhD who are interested
in exploring the challenges of undertaking doctoral study through the
medium of English.

Pre-requisites: Early-stage international PGRs who would benefit from
the opportunity to discuss the challenges of undertaking doctoral study
in English (and England!)

Description
Although this workshop is intended to be flexible to respond to the
interests of participants, issues likely to be discussed include:

• Why doing a PhD (in English or not!) is hard
• Linguistic and cultural (mis)understandings
• ‘Fighting with Writing’ (and reading, and speaking…)
• (Self-help) resources to improve language and broader academic
literacy skills
• Managing time to maximise writing output
