Description
To hold a FAW certificate to become a qualified and registered first
aider a candidate must successfully complete the equivalent of 18
contact hours, which includes the final practical assessment.
YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FULL 21 HOURS OF THE COURSE TO QUALIFY
- Courses will be provided as 3 day courses or 1 day per week for 3
weeks.
- A certificate lasts 3 years.
The content of HSE recommended 3 day first aid at work course:
- Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Treating an unconscious casulty (including seizure)
- Wounds and bleeding
- Shock
- Minor injuries
- Choking
- Preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and the
use of available equipment.
- Fractures
- Sprains and strains
- Chest injuries
- Severe burns and scalds
- Eye injuries
- Poisoning
- Anaphylaxis
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Asthma
- Diabetes
Courses fill up very quickly so please plan ahead. Courses are free to
university employees but failure to attend without notice WILL result in
a charge to the employee's department (£100 "no show fee").
Please wear comfortable/suitable clothing as you will be taking in part
in practical demonstrations.
There is no charge for these courses for members of staff employed by
the University (£200 for non-employees).
