Description
Student Counselling Centre

The workshop will consist of input from the facilitator, discussion,
interactive group work and guided relaxation. It will explore the
"Balancing Act", the varied demands research students are dealing with;
what is stress; stress symptoms; different approaches to managing and
preventing stress.

Participants will better understand stress, will learn to identify the
causes and triggers of their own stress, to recognise their own stress
symptoms, and to develop a range of different strategies to improve
prevention and management of stress. It will also provide the
opportunity to talk about experiences with others in a similar situation
and hear about ways of coping others have found beneficial.

The course aims to enable participants to better manage the stress which
can arise from doing a research degree.

Julie Hopkins is a BACP Accredited Counsellor who works in the Student
Counselling Centre, offering one-to-one counselling and also
facilitating various groups and workshops. She has also worked as a
Trainer and Consultant in career management, with particular emphasis on
the management of stress and change.
