Description
PREREQUISITES

It is essential that participants have attended NVivo Part 1 training.
It is also desirable if participants have some understanding of
qualitative data collection and analysis methodology since the training
does not cover research methodologies.

NVIVO FOR WINDOWS AND NVIVO FOR MAC
The training covers NVivo 20.1.6 for Windows only. We advise Mac users
not to attend this session since some of NVivo tools used during this
session are not available in Mac.

SUITABILITY OF THE TRAINING:
Participants will benefit from this training if they have used online
survey tools such as SurveyMonkey to collect survey responses and would
like to find meaningful answers and insights into their research
questions

LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Create a blank project and import the budget consultation survey into
NVivo
• Filter results by cross-tabulating subgroups
• Conduct Word Frequency Query to list the most frequently occurring
words or concepts in the dataset
• Conduct Text Search Query to search for words or phrases in the
dataset and explore the use, context and meaning of those words
• Automatically code the results (references) of the Text Search Query
at nodes
• Explore automatically coded responses for each open-ended question
(i.e. theme nodes)
• Explore automatically coded responses from each survey respondent
(i.e. Case Nodes)
• Explore automatically extracted themes (Autocoded Themes)
• Explore automatically extracted Sentiments
• Create Matrix Coding Query to compare what different demographic
groups have said about an issue (e.g., what are the similarities and
differences between male and female responses)
• Chart descriptive data in the survey
• Write analytical memo to document significant findings and to draw
conclusions
