Pre-requisites/requirements/prior knowledge:
None essential, however it would be useful to have some understanding of
Occupational Health Service by either having attended an Occupational
Health and Staff Counselling and Psychological Services Induction
presentation, or read the FAQ section of the Occupational Health Service
website: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/occupationalhealth/

Overall aim of course:
This workshop aims to show how good management of health issues can
contribute to both the wellbeing of individuals and also have a positive
effect on work. It is designed to give you an understanding of the range
of health-related issues that may occur at work, either where health has
potential effects on the work carried out, or where there may be a
potential impact on health from work.

Intended outcomes + benefits from attending:
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
• Understand the occupational health focus at our University.
• Know their responsibilities for promoting staff health and
wellbeing.
• Be able to identify responsibilities for health at work.
• Know how to access support individually and for their staff.

Indicative content:
What occupational health is and why it is important to manage health at
work. Ways of approaching health situations that occur at work.
Understand what staff support might be needed and how to access it. Ways
to access the impartial advice and processes required to assist in
managing health at work. The benefits for all to be healthier at work
and to prevent potential work impacting on health. Definition of
Occupational Health and how it applies to the university, faculties
schools and services. Relevant legislation and responsibilities of the
employee, the manager and the university. Managing and assessing risk
for health related issues (prevention rather than cure). Obstacles to
returning to work after an illness and how to overcome them. Myths and
realities in relation to working with health conditions. How and when to
refer to Occupational Health: Effectively using the relevant processes
and procedures
