Description
Context:
The Lecture Capture and Media Management System enables staff and
students to easily record, edit and share digital media using a feature
called "Personal Capture". Users have the flexibility to record media on
their mobile devices, video recording devices or via the Mediasite
Desktop Recorder. The updated Mediasite Desktop Recorder (2019) enables
staff and students to create screencasts, simple webcam videos or
podcasts. There are various publishing options available but staff can
simply share their media via existing Minerva modules or Organisations.
The new Quiz feature allows academic staff to create quizzes and track
student responses via Mediasite analytics as students review the content
in their own time and at their own pace.

Aim of the Session:
The session aims to introduce colleagues to the pedagogical uses and
benefits of using Personal Capture to create digital media to support
student education. There will be an opportunity to record a short
screencast/presentation and access this via Mediasite where we will
explore editing and sharing options.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• appreciate the pedagogical benefits of using digital media to support
student education
• record a short screencast / presentation using the Mediasite Desktop
Recorder (MDR)
• explore the editing tools within Mediasite to delete/add content,
change thumbnail images add chapter headings and tag recordings
• share media with students via Minerva
• explore external publishing options to external channels like
VideoLeeds
• upload existing multimedia content to Mediasite, and
• record and upload content from mobile devices.

Preparation:
Participants are invited to watch a short screencast before attending
this workshop and to read a short introduction to the Lecture Capture
and Media Management Service. Participants are encouraged to choose a
short PowerPoint presentation to narrate over during recording.

Content:
This is a hands-on practical workshop in which participants will focus
on recording, editing and publishing digital media using the Mediasite
Desktop Recorder. Pedagogical advice and best practice in creating
digital media will also be discussed.
