Suitability
Postgraduate research students, research staff and academic staff new to
impact. Postgraduate research students should attend shortly before
their transfer and before they enter the final 12 months (full-time) or
24 months (part-time) of their study.
Research staff should ideally be in the early stages of their current
research project.
Academic staff would ideally attend in the idea generation stage for
their next research project or as soon as possible after the start of
the project.

Description
Before registering on Impact 1: Identifying Your Impact Goals. This is
one of three linked workshops. Please review this link which details

Pre-work requirements /links to online resources:
You will need to spend approximately 60 mins reading some
resources
Submitting your reflections on these resources to an online
collaboration tool.
This will include;
-reading material on the definitions of research
-reading a blogpost
-reading a journal
-posting your response to 4 questions on a Padlet prior to attending the
session.
The pre-work will be provided in the Outlook meeting request for the
event. If the pre-work is not completed you will not be able to attend
the event.
Aim of Training
The aim of the course is to begin the process of identifying impact
goals that could emerge from your next research project and embedding
those goals and the actions to achieve them within the project. This
workshop is the first of 3 workshops that take you through a systematic
process of embedding impact into research projects.
Session Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will have:-
• Identified one or more draft impact goals that could emerge from
your current or next research project.
• Analysed the context (significant actors, influences, etc) within
which these impact goal(s) are located.
• Prioritised actions to take after the workshop that will the
refine these draft impact goals.

Works with researchers from all disciplines to help them to
develop and implement plans to realise impact. He has worked as a
technology solutions consultant, working with academics, to solve
business problems within the utility sector.
