PRE-REQUISITES/ REQUIREMENTS:
Before participating in this course participants will be expected:
*•To have participated in course 1 (Engaging with the Media) or to have
media experience;
*•To have prepared a topic for interview in agreement with the
tutor.

AIM:
This course will deal predominantly with broadcast TV interviewing and
include practical experience of being interviewed on camera in studio
with a more questioning form of interview than is included in course 1.
It will include recording and reviewing of television interviews,
demystifying the process and explaining the techniques for broadcast
interviews.

Participants will be interviewed on a subject previously agreed with the
course tutor, the aim being to enable you to explain clearly your work
for a general audience. The course will also cover dealing with a more
confrontational type of interview.

INTENDED OUTCOMES + BENEFITS:
As a result of the course participants will:
• Understand the needs of the broadcast media;
• Appreciate the limited amount of time available for interviews
• Be more relaxed in front of the camera
• Be able to prioritise information for use in an interview;
• Understand the importance of sound bites and language.

CONTENT:
The following aspects will be covered:
• Television demystified with real examples.
• What interviewers are looking for.
• The different kinds of interview.
• Dos and don’ts.
• Live versus pre-recorded.
• Studio interviews with each participant on the basis of the previously
agreed topic.
• Review and second interview

LEARNING & TEACHING METHODS:
It will include recording and reviewing of television
interviews, demystifying the process and explaining the techniques for
broadcast interviews. Participants will be interviewed on a subject
previously agreed with the course tutor, the aim being to enable them to
explain clearly their work for a general audience.

TUTOR:
Diana Muir is a print journalist, TV director and producer, media
trainer and consultant.
