Overall aim of the course
The aim of the workshop is to allow participants to understand what is
required in the Viva Voce and how they can maximize the effectiveness of
their preparation.
Outcomes and benefits
It is not uncommon for postgraduate researchers to have concerns about
their final doctoral viva. To support researchers in their preparation,
this workshop attempts to talk researchers through the viva process,
presents the guidance given by the University on how the Viva should be
carried out by examiners and considers again the criteria for award of
the various doctoral degrees. There is also an opportunity to consider
typical viva questions. In all the workshop should support researchers
in their preparations for their Viva.

Tutor
Dr. Tony Bromley is responsible for the Graduate Training and Support
Centre in the Staff and Departmental Development Unit. He is an
experienced researcher and a PhD graduate of the University of Leeds. He
has been delivering and running programmes of training and development
activity for researchers for ten years firstly at the University of
Manchester before rejoining the University of Leeds in 2006.
