Description
Aim: The workshop aims to support those new to teaching to prepare for
and deliver lectures.
Outcomes: At the end of this workshop, participants will be better
able to:
•Discuss the main purposes of lectures
•Address factors that help (and hinder) learning in large group
environments
•Prepare and structure lectures or large group teaching sessions
•Promote student learning during lectures or large group teaching
Content: The workshop is an interactive session which explores what
lectures are trying to (and can) achieve to support student learning;
how to prepare to present ideas as effectively as possible and how to
encourage student interaction in a large group setting. Some technology
which can be used in the lecture theatre will also be discussed and
demonstrated.
Participant feedback: What benefits will this session have for your
work? 'Better delivery and much [better] understanding from the
students' Anonymous. 'I feel like I now have better tools to help me
plan more effective lectures. I will think about putting activity
breaks into my lectures' Abby Sadawi.
