Overall aim of workshop: This workshop uses project management as
an approach in managing a wide range of activities and is not simply
applicable to 'conventional' projects. Project management skills are
increasingly required by colleagues in a wide range of professional
service and academic roles, many of whom manage or work on multiple
projects. This approach takes each participants work role and breaks it
down into a portfolio of projects which need to be managed individually
and collectively.
Intended outcomes: By the end of this workshop, participants will
have:
- Discussed a practical model for project management;
- Discussed and practised key tools and techniques for effective and
efficient project management;
- Applied these to the task of managing individual as well as multiple
projects;
- Worked out ways to integrate project management tools and techniques
into their everyday work and to interpret their role in terms of a
portfolio of projects;
- Improved their skills and underpinning knowledge of project
management;
- Identified ways that they can apply the learning from the course to
their work at the University of Leeds.
Indicative content:
- Clarify between maintenance and progress project
- Project roles of sponsor project manager
- Key drivers in projects
- Estimating project time and activities within project
- Project Tools, PERT charts, WBS, Key Milestones, Cloud diagrams and
risk analysis.
