Overall aim of workshop: Aim of this workshop is to help participants
prepare for the key challenges presented by the changing landscape in
Higher Education by developing an awareness of their own personal
leadership style and its effectiveness in getting things done through
other people. It will also explore the similarities and differences
between leadership and management, and the skills and qualities of an
effective leader, as defined by the Universities leadership and
management standard.

Intended outcomes: By the end of this workshop participants will have:
Identified and compared contrasting perspectives of leadership; Outlined
the similarities and differences between management and leadership;
Considered personal leadership orientation and development needs;
Outlined a personal development plan to fine tune their leadership
skills

Indicative content: What the Training covers:
Leadership in a changing HE context: What kind of leadership actually
works?
The similarities and differences between leadership and management
Using values as a steadying force in times of change
Balancing the needs of getting the job done with the needs and
aspirations of people within your team.
Translating “demonstating personal responsibility” into actions
Identify your preferred /least preferred leadership styles
Practical exercises to demonstrate leadership and management
